Welcome to the Nordplus application deadline in 2024, the second one in a new programme period, 2023 - 2027.

Nordic languages was the focal point of a conference held in Hveragerði on 18 - 20 September, organised by Nordplus, the Nordic Council of Minsters‘ programme in the area of lifelong learning. Representatives from various Nordic language schools and centres as well as those that focus on research and promotion of minority languages in the Nordic countries have come together with the goal of working towards cooperation on future projects across Nordic and Baltic borders.

2 October 2023 is the application deadline for preparatory visits within the Nordplus Junior, Nordplus Adult and Nordplus Nordic Languages programmes. The main goal of a preparatory visit is to make concrete plans for a project in order to submit a full application before the programme’s next deadline of 1st February 2024.

The focus will be on preparatory visits. Three of our sub-programmes offer the possibility of applying for a preparatory visits. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 is to make concrete plans for a project in order to submit a full application before the programme’s next deadline of 1st February 2024

The Nordplus Junior Aurora Award 2023 goes to a joint Nordic-Baltic project.

The overall result of the Nordplus application round February 2023 is a total of 499 applications applying for a total grant of 27.119.697 €. This is over 35% increase in applications from the previous year. This is a better result than expected, and we are happy with the quality of the applications. The result of the administration’s assessment and acceptance by the Nordplus Programme Committee is that 340, or 68% of the applications, are proposed for funding, making for a total amount of 12.755.000 € or 47% of the applied amount.

Last year we started this campaign, called Let´s talk about Nordplus. For a week in the end of April, we shared information about the Nordplus programme, about the five sub-programmes and we also shared project stories from project managers, teachers, students and other, working with Nordplus projects. So get ready to talk more about Nordplus. This time around it will start on 24 April - 1 May 2023. We want to hear from you!

The Nordplus Nordic Languages Programme is one of Nordplus five sub-programs. It is a special programme with the main goal of it being to promote Nordic Languages and culture, inter-Nordic language comprehension, as well as mutual Nordic-Baltic linguistic and cultural understanding.

This Nordplus Café is intended for those of you, who have already started the application process before the main deadline 1 February 2023. At the Café there will be a very short introduction and then we will use breakout rooms for the different Nordplus sub-programmes. We look forward to seeing you.

The application round for preparatory visits opens on 25 August, and the deadline for submission of applications is 3 October. You can apply for a preparatory visit in the programmes Nordplus Junior, Nordplus Adult and Nordplus Nordic Languages. The main goal of a preparatory visit is to meet with potential new partners and make concrete plans for a project in order to submit a full application for the programme’s next deadline of 1 February 2023 or later.

The overall result of the Nordplus application round February 2022 is a total of 371 applications applying for a total grant of 16.272.104 €. This is over 9% increase from the previous year but not unexpected due to the reduction of cases of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Nordplus programme of the Nordic Council of Ministers invites Nordic and Baltic institutions and organisations working with or involved in education and training to apply for funding in the application round of 2022.

By Kristina Wall at the Swedish Council for Higher Education Over the last three years, Osbeck upper secondary school in Laholm, Sweden, and Vamia in Vasa, Finland, have participated in a Nordplus project. Students studying hotel and tourism programmes have worked on promoting the visitor industry in Halland and in Ostrabothnia.

A contact seminar for headmasters and staff working in kindergartens/preschools will be held in Copenhagen 16-18 May 2022. Last application date for participation is 1 April 2022.

Young people’s engagement in climate issues is increasing, something YBC upper secondary school has taken note of. YBC has, together with a Swedish and a Danish school, started a three-year project to create a better future.

To be eligable for funding through the Programme, you need to pair up with one or several schools or organisations in the Nordplus countries.

As the Covid19 epidemic has not completely subsided in the Nordplus member countries, the Nordplus administration has decided that special exceptions to the Nordplus rules will continue to apply to projects approved now in 2021.

An impressive number of successful Nordplus projects with a focus on integration were presented when Nordplus hosted a virtual integration seminar. This initiative is full of inspiration for future projects across the Nordic and Baltic countries.

The Covid19 epidemic had a major impact on the Nordplus application process in 2021. Far fewer applications were received than in previous years. This did not come as a surprise as other international programs such as Erasmus + have also experienced this decline.

Next Thurday, April 15th, we will be launching our first Nordplus Cafe. This will be a new platform where we introduce everything that Nordplus has to offer. On our first "café date" the focus is on the Junior program. Nordplus Junior is aimed at preschools, primary and secondary schools, both theoretical and vocational programmes, as well as vocational schools/apprenticeships.

In the 2021 application round due to Covid19, we deviate from the conventional guidelines and allow Letters of Intent (LOI) in another format, such as e-mail. As is normally the standard procedure, all participating organizations must certify their cooperation in the project.

To meet the challenges posed by Covid-19, the Nordplus administration approved a number of temporary changes to the Nordplus rules.

Read and understand – that was the theme of a Nordplus collaboration project which included three Swedish-teaching schools – from three different countries. The project has improved the children’s reading comprehension to such an extent that the methods have now become permanent.

Decades with no first language teaching has today been replaced by schools with Sami as their official teaching language and with distance education. Small e-books, developed as part of a Nordplus project, are an important tool in language teaching and identity formation.

The Nordic Council of Ministers and Nordplus have published a brochure highlighting the success of Nordplus, the Council‘s educational support programme. The content covers the main milestones of the programme for the period 2012-2018.

Iceland has from year 2019 formally taken on the role of Secretariat of Nordplus, the Nordic Council of Ministers' major education programme, for the next three years. In this new capacity Rannís will be responsible for the operation of the head office for the Nordplus Programme. Rannís has operated the Nordplus National Agency in Iceland since 2013.

The call for applications to Nordplus in 2019 has now been published and the deadline for submit­ting applications is 1st February 2019. A total of 10 million euro is available in the round, which includes an extraordinary amount of 400.000 euro allocated by the Nordic Council of Ministers for exchange of pupils and student in Nordplus Junior programme.

In 2019 and 2020, Nordplus welcomes applications on digital competences and computational thinking preparing pupils, students and adults for the digitalized society. The Nordplus highlight relates to all Nordplus programmes and to all sectors within the field of education and training.

In 10 years, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have become full members of Nordplus, and that pleases Dagfinn Høybråten, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers and Nordic Council. He views Nordplus as the most folk friendly part of the Nordic cooperation and the Balts – they have embraced Nordplus.

In the application round of February 2018 Nordplus received 567 applications involving a total number of 3.756 organisations. 369 applications have been successful and are granted funding – meaning that the 2.998 organisations involved will now be able to begin their activities.

In the Nordplus application round of March 2016 more projects across the Nordic and Baltic regions than previous years applied for funds. The programme received 654 applications applying for a total grant of 29,7 million Euro, which is 2.9 times more than available from the overall budget of 10,1 million Euro. 395 applications or 60 percent of the applications have been granted funding.

In 2015 more than 3.100 organisations across the Nordic and Baltic countries can now ‘kickstart’ new education projects with funding from Nordplus. For this year’s Nordplus application round 410 out of 605 applications have been granted funding.
