A New Project Category in the Nordplus Nordic Languages Programme
The Nordplus Nordic Languages subprogramme has launched a new project category for 2025: Nordic Language Courses. This initiative aims to enhance the teaching and learning of Nordic languages with emphasis on the Scandinavian languages (Danish, Norwegian and Swedish) The goal is to focusing improve inter-Nordic language comprehension and preserve the region’s shared linguistic heritage.
A Wide Range of Educational Providers can apply
The Nordic Language Courses category is open to a broad range of applicants from the Nordic and Baltic regions. Eligible institutions and organizations include:
- Educational Institutions: Pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, adult education institutions, universities, and research institutions.
- Organizations and Associations: NGOs, informal learning arenas, networks, and private companies.
- General Rule for Eligibility: Only institutions and organizations based in the eight Nordic and Baltic countries (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden) and the three autonomous regions (Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and Åland Islands) are eligible to receive funding.
Target Group for the Courses
The Nordic Language Courses should be specifically designed for the following target groups:
- University Students
- Teacher Students
- Qualified Teachers
These groups represent key audiences who can benefit most from enhanced language skills, helping to foster inter-Nordic understanding and cultural exchange.
Promoting Essential Nordic Languages for Stronger Communication
Courses must focus on one of the key Nordic languages: Danish, Finnish, Faroese, Greenlandic, Icelandic, Norwegian, Sami, or Swedish. Priority will be given to courses teaching Scandinavian languages (Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish), as these languages are vital for communication across the region.
The primary goal is to strengthen inter-Nordic language comprehension, enabling participants to better understand each other’s languages and cultures. Courses should mainly target Scandinavian-speaking teachers, teacher students, and university students, while also welcoming participants who speak other Nordic languages.
Flexible Formats and Multi-Year Support
The Nordic Language Courses offer a variety of flexible formats, from short two-day workshops to intensive courses lasting up to one month. Courses can also be organized as symposiums. Applicants can seek funding for multiple courses over a two-year period, with the option to reapply for continued support for an additional two years.

- Eligibility: Open to schools, universities, NGOs, networks, and private companies from the Nordic and Baltic regions, provided they offer courses targeting university students, teacher students, or qualified teachers.

How to Apply
Organizations interested in organizing Nordic Language Courses are encouraged to apply in the upcoming Nordplus call for proposals. The deadline is on the 3rd of February. This new category offers an excellent opportunity to develop impactful language programmes that enhance inter-Nordic language skills and contribute to preserving the region’s linguistic heritage.
